NAIROBI, Kenya—Ahead of the official launch of his new political outfit, the People’s Renaissance Movement (PM Party), Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has urged his colleagues in the opposition to emulate former prime minister Raila Odinga (deceased).
In a statement shared on his official Twitter account (formerly X), the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker observed that the true test of democracy is not to bulldoze other leaders into submission but to persuade others that you are the right candidate.
“Raila Odinga learned this trick of convincing other regional powerhouses into declaring him the flag bearer,” said the youth.
Amisi, serving his second term in office, observed that there was a dire need for his colleagues from the opposition to emulate the former ODM party leader, who passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 80. Raila passed away from a cardiac arrest while undergoing medical treatment in Kerala, India.
“Chestthumping is counterproductive. Remember, no one owes anyone the seat of presidency, and they can go about their business,” added Amisi.
What is the common goal of Kenya’s opposition
He insisted that the main goal of the opposition in the run-up to the August 10, 2027, elections is ensuring that President William Ruto doesn’t get another term in office.
“We all want Kasongo to go; do not spoil the party, na vichwa ngumu. Kenya needs a renaissance!” said Amisi, who is also affiliated to the Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi faction.
While agreeing with former deputy president and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua’s recent remarks that all opposition leaders must get out of their comfort zones and hit the campaign trail, Amisi reiterated that politics is a game of numbers.
“Raila Odinga used to carry people with big names on his back, thinking they would bring votes, kumbe ni majini kubwa but hewa. It cost Baba the presidency forever,” he said.
Without mentioning names, Amisi maintained that everyone in opposition must go out there and campaign.
“Nobody will give you money and votes. Who are you!? This is reality we must face and agree to before it is too late. It is what it is. Take it kindly. Cha muhimu #RutoMustGo,” he further said.

“This is a generational duty. Just like past generations, we must win our war; economic liberation! Tupatane kesho hapo Jamhuri ASK Dome,” said Amisi ahead of the party launch.
On Sunday, August 9, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker led members and officials of the new political outfit in a prayer and blessing service at the Calvary Covenant Centre in Komarock, ahead of the upcoming National Delegates Convention (NDC).
“We commit the journey ahead to God, seeking His guidance, wisdom, and blessings as we prepare for this important milestone. Mungu akibariki, hakuna kitu itashindikana. Kenya needs a renaissance,” said the lawmaker.
Caleb Amisi and his troops meet Martha Karua
Earlier, Amisi, alongside the leadership of the People’s Renaissance Movement, paid a visit to the Martha Karua-led People Liberation Party (PLP) headquarters.
“We had productive discussions on the importance of strengthening multiparty democracy and building a broader movement for accountable leadership. I look forward to joining the PRM family at their National Delegates Conference on 11th August,” said Karua following the visit.

Raila Odinga’s core promises to Kenyans
With the clock fast ticking towards the PM Party launch, MP Amisi maintains that the political outfit will produce a presidential candidate in 2027.
At the same time, Amisi assured Raila, who ran alongside Karua in the 2022 elections, that even in his death, he was committed to fulfilling his promise to Kenyans.
news9.africa understands that during his 2022 presidential campaign, Raila’s main platform under the Azimio la Tuko One Kenya Manifesto centered on a 10-point commitment.
His core promises focused on social welfare, economic transformation, job creation, and better governance for all citizens.
