The High
Court has granted the Orange Democratic Movement party access to voters’
register ahead of tomorrow’s (Thursday) Kibra by elections.

This follows
a ruling on Wednesday which ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission
to immediately release the complete Kibra Constituency voters’ register to
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

ODM filed a
suit on Monday accusing IEBC over claims that the electoral body intends to
unlawfully deny residents the right to vote in the mini poll on Thursday.

The party
claimed it wrote several letters (on September 20, on September 30 and October
2) asking the commission to furnish it with the register but the move bore no
fruits.

ODM suit
claimed that the commission offered to supply its lawyers with a copy of the
voters register upon payment of Sh 15,000.

However,
after going through it, the party discovered that it was an outdated and
truncated copy that was used in the 2017 general election.

In October, IEBC
announced through a Gazette notice that there are 118,658 registered voters in
Kibra constituency.

The commission
also showed that Laini Saba has 17,455 voters, Lindi 16,688, Makina 25,695, Woodley/
Kenyatta Golf Course 28,066 and Sarangombe 30,754.

IEBC has
already supplied voting materials to various polling centers, set for Thursday’s
election.

The Kibra
by-election race has been tight with ODM candidate Imran Okoth facing it tough
from Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga, Eliud Owalo (ANC) among other competitors.
