James Orengo: My views on impeachment are personal

Siaya Senator James Orengo has told off Deputy President William Ruto’s allies accusing ODM leader Raila Odinga over impeachment.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Orengo said that the views to impeach the DP were solely his and Raila does not know anything about it.

“The views on impeachment are personal, when I speak for Raila I will say it.” said the Senator.

A section of Jubilee leaders allied to DP William Ruto on Monday lashed at Mr. Orengo, saying the views he made about impeaching the DP were spearheaded by Raila Odinga.

They accused Raila for using the ‘handshake’ in a bad motive of making sure that Jubilee is split.

Reason

They dared Orengo to take the motion to the National Assembly and “we will struck it with a two-third majority threshold.”

The Senate minority leader defended his views saying that much that revolves around graft cases in the country have touched on William Ruto.

“This is a reason enough to take the DP home. We are coming from a transformative tradition to an informative, which depend on the kind of the leaders we have,” he said.

Orengo cited gross misconduct as the main reason to the impeachment of the DP.

Asked why he ought not to take the DP to court provided that he has the evidence, he said “impeachment is a tool enough” to use and when the right time comes, he will move the motion.

Process

Should a motion of impeachment be accepted by the clerk of the National Assembly, it will require the house a two-third threshold to pass it.

After passing, the speaker of the national Assembly will notify the senate, which will select a committee to hear the allegations, in present of the DP invited, and present the findings to the senators to vote.

If a two-third of the senators back it up, then the DP will cease to perform his duties and be removed from office.

Orengo argued that the constitution provides for the president to choose another deputy, in case the current one is impeached.
