Nairobi, Kenya – Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has demoted Referee Eric Njogu after a performance review of match officials for the Kenya Premier League.

FKF, through its National Referees Committee, took the steps following an assessment of key decisions made during the SportPesa League matches.
In a statement seen by News Nine, the body said Njogu, a FIFA Referee, made inconsistent decisions during Match No. 56 (Kariobangi Sharks vs Shabana FC) and Match No. 94 (Nairobi United vs Mathare United).
Which matches will Erick Njogu officiate?
The committee demoted Njogu to the National Super League level, where he will be closely monitored as he officiates matches in the next five rounds.
“Following the review, the Committee assessed the performance of Mr Erick Njogu (FIFA Referee) in Match No. 56 (Kariobangi Sharks vs Shabana FC) and Match No. 94 (Nairobi United vs Mathare United).
“Several key decisions were found to be inconsistent with the standards expected at his level. As a corrective and developmental measure, Mr Njogu will be demoted to officiate National Super League (NSL) matches for the next five (5) rounds. His performance will be closely monitored, with evaluation reports submitted to determine readiness for reinstatement to the Premier League panel,” read the FKF statement in part.
What FKF said about Assistant Referee Fredrick Kajongo
FKF further issued a formal written warning to Assistant Referee Fredrick Kajongo after finding incorrect offside decisions in Match No. 90 (Kenya Police vs Mathare United).
“An incorrect offside decision was noted, and he has been issued with a formal written warning. His future assignments will be closely monitored, with an expectation of improved decision-making,” the statement continued.
FKF emphasised that these measures form part of its ongoing referee development framework to ensure accountability, consistency, and excellence in officiating.
The review was conducted during a virtual meeting of the FKF Instructors Technical Group on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 and involved analysis of match footage, officials’ reports, and explanations provided, in line with FKF’s commitment to high standards of officiating and integrity.
