Former two-weight ultimate fighting championship (UFC) title-holder Conor McGregor on Tuesday announced his retirement from the sport.
According to Reuters report, the 30-year-old made the anouncement on his twitter handle.
“Hey guys, quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as Mixed Martial Art today, I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in the competition.” read McGregor’s quote on reuters news.
However, this comes as a daring comeback for the Irish, owing to his Monday TV show interview.
During the interview, he said that he was under negotiations to fight in July this year.
This is not the first time McGregor has said so.
In 2016, the world champion announced his retirement, a month after losing to Nate Diaz, saying “I have decided to retire young.”
The question remains, could this announcement be McGregor’s hunt for a comeback?
Meanwhile, UFC President Dana White has accepted the decision by the player, saying it was best to make.
White added that he understood McGregor’s decision given his wealth and the commercial success of his whiskey brand.
“He has the money to retire and his whiskey is killing it. It totally makes sense,” White said in a statement. If I was him I would retire too.” said White.
