Zambian Catherine Phiri on Saturday sent a message to aspiring young ladies about boxing, after she suffered defeat to Fatuma Zarika at the Kenyatta Internal Conference Centre, Nairobi.

Her message was simple, “focus and determination” the key to becoming a success in boxing.

WBC super bantamweight champion ‘Iron Fist’ Zarika won after a 3-0 unanimous decision from three judges.

The judges, Michael Neequaye, Fillemon Mweya and Irene Semakula gave their scores as 98-92 99-91 97-93 confirming Zarika’s victory.

Zarika said Phiri has had the last chance to snatch the title from her, but the Zambian is still hopeful of Zarika-Phiri take 3.

Since September last year, Zarika has shown her improved form after beating visiting Mexican Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado in a split points decision.

Phiri has had three fights, winning all since then. She also won WBC World bantamweight title where she defended it once before losing it.

Meanwhile, the men Super Welterweight Contest saw Olympian and former AIBA continental welterweight champion, Rayton ‘Boom!Boom’ Okwiri beat seasoned Tanzanian Pascal ‘Prince Kilimanjaro’ Bruno with a third round technical knockout.

In another match, Tanzania boxing sensation, Hassan ‘Champez’ Mwakinyo beat seasoned Argentine Sergion Eduardo ‘El Tigre’ Gonzalez to with a fifth round technical knockout.
