In a bold step towards building Kenya’s digital workforce, the Open University of Kenya (OUK) has partnered with BCS Technology International, a global IT consulting firm, to train and export talent in Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science and software engineering.
BCS Technology brings extensive experience helping leading global brands increase revenue and efficiency through AI and the collaboration will create a direct pathway for top-performing learners to secure job placements in Germany, other parts of Europe and within Tensai Jaseci, a new AI consulting joint venture between BCS and Jaseci Labs.
“We are excited by this collaboration, which directly aligns with our mission to offer globally competitive and digitally delivered education,” said Prof. Elijah Omwenga, OUK Vice Chancellor, noting that enrollment begins immediately.
Under the partnership, OUK students will take part in an intensive, fully sponsored 8-week program led by Dr. Jason Mars, a world-renowned AI professor at the University of Michigan and founder of Jaseci Labs. As BCS Technology’s official AI Advisor, Dr. Mars will bring his expertise and the cutting-edge Jaseci open-source AI development platform, which will be central to hands-on training. A celebrated entrepreneur, Dr. Mars previously grew a conversational AI venture to a valuation of over $200 million and has been recognized as one of the ‘Top 11 Technologists in Voice AI’ and among Crain’s Detroit Business ‘40 Under 40’.
A new, state-of-the-art AI Lab will also be established at OUK to support ongoing innovation and practical learning with Jaseci’s tools. “This isn’t just about degrees—it’s about careers,” said Prof. Carolyne Omulando, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs. “BCS is not only providing content and trainers but also scholarships for learners.”
This landmark agreement blends global exposure with local access, positioning Kenya as an emerging hub for AI talent and ensuring that local students have the training, resources, and opportunities to compete and thrive on the world stage.
