Bonfire Adventures founder, Simon Kabu, has warmed hearts online after sharing a touching story about his daughter, Maurine Kabu and the life lessons she has embraced through mentorship and financial discipline.
Taking to his social media pages, Kabu narrated how, just a year ago, he sent his daughter to Cape Town with a card loaded with over KSh 2 million for her trip. To his surprise, she spent only KSh 32,000 during her stay, demonstrating remarkable restraint and maturity.
Fast-forward to this year, and Maurine has taken her father’s birthday celebrations to a whole new level. She surprised him with an all-expenses-paid trip to Thailand and handed him KSh 1 million in a mix of Kenyan shillings, dollars and euros to enjoy during the getaway.
“The power of mentorship! Imagine last year I sent my daughter Maurine Kabu to Capetown with a card that had over 2 million and she spent 32k only… One year down the line, my daughter has surprised me as I go for my birthday to #Thailand (which she has paid for me) with 1 million shillings in Ksh, dollars and euros to go and spend,” Kabu wrote.
He emphasised that his excitement was not about the amount of money involved, but rather the thoughtfulness and maturity behind his daughter’s gesture.
“The issue here is not about the amount but the thought! God is great!” he added.
The post has since gone viral, drawing admiration from Kenyans online who praised Maurine’s generosity and the Kabus’ family values. Many noted that the gesture reflects the positive impact of mentorship and the importance of instilling financial discipline and responsibility in children from an early age.
Kabu, one of Kenya’s most recognisable entrepreneurs and travel industry leaders, ended his post with gratitude, sharing his daughter’s phone number and encouraging those interested in connecting with her to do so.
Maurine’s gesture not only highlights a personal family milestone but also resonates with a broader message about mentorship, parenting and raising financially responsible young adults in an increasingly materialistic world.
