The wife of deceased Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya, has urged the international community to join hands against Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to see him defeated.
Yulia asked the world to eradicate what she termed as a “horrific regime in Russia,” whose main objective is a deep vicious cycle on its people especially those who dare to oppose President Putin.
While addressing an audience of dignitaries in Munich, Germany, Yulia said that the Russian government is a perennial liar, questioning the untimely death of her husband.
“You all know that we cannot trust Putin’s government. They lie constantly, ” she said
Alexei Navalny was a Russian opposition leader who died on Friday, 16 February in an Arctic Circle prison. Reports in the media say he collapsed and died and medics were unable to resuscitate him.
Critics of Putin have associated him with the death of Navalny, saying he had a hand in it. US President Joe Biden and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky are among world leaders who have also condemned Alexei’s death insinuating that the Russian government killed him.
An agitated Yulia affirmed that if indeed it is true that her husband was murdered, Putin and his immediate friends should be brought to justice for a traumatic deal he has subjected her family and all the impunity.
The character of Yulia Navalnaya
Yulia has been in the headlines since 2020 when mainstream Russian newspapers recognized her as the “Hero of the Year” after she proved to have saved her husband’s life.
She accompanied Alexey to Germany for treatment, where the opposition leader had been referred to following his wife’s demand. She suspected that her husband might have been poisoned, which was later confirmed by German doctors.
The media started to perceive Navalnaya as the “first lady of Russian opposition,” and in 2021, she returned to Russia with her husband but he was detained.
Yulia urged supporters of her husband not to relent in the fight against oppression and her husband’s arrest signaled her that the Russian regime already had a plan to eliminate Navalny.
“And am not afraid either, ” she said
Before Alexey’s death, in his final Instagram post on Valentine’s Day, he posted a message showing deep love for his wife, Yulia.
“Baby, everything is like a song with you, between us there are cities, the take-off lights of airfields, blue snowstorms, and thousands of kilometres, I feel that you are near second and I love you more and more.”
Leaders across the globe including Former US President Barack Obama and the current US President Joe Biden have both expressed their deep sorrow and outrage following Alexei’s death.
