A Kiev-bound Boeing 737 plane crashed after taking off from
Tehran on Wednesday killing the 176 people on board.
According to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, victims
of the Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 plane include Iranians, Canadians,
and Britons. In a tweet, he revealed that 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians,
10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans, and three Britons died in the crash.
CNN reports that a spokesperson for Ukraine Airlines told a
press conference the plane had last been checked on January 6 and there were no
complaints about the jet.
CNN further reveals that the Ukrainian embassy in Tehran has
ruled out a terror attack as a possible cause for the plane crash saying, “According
to preliminary information, the plane crashed due to an engine malfunction. The
version of the terrorist attack or rocket attack is currently excluded.”
