Contractors in Kisii cautioned over shoddy performance.

Kisii County Contractors Association is set to begin
blacklisting shoddy and no-performing contractors from the group.

The new group chair Wilfred Bosire said the shoddy
contractors were giving the association a bad name and may miss out on future
tenders.

“A taskforce will soon be set up to look into the conduct of
all contractors hired to undertake work in the region with view to evaluating
their performance ahead of weeding out cowboy contractors,” said Bosire.

He said the body was aware of the flurry of complaints
regarding work done poorly by some rogue contractors and thus the need to act
swift to save the reputation of those who do their work well.

“As a body we need contractors who will be doing work
according to the set guidelines and standards,’’ said Bosire.

Bosire was voted in on Monday to take over from James
Mariera who ended his three-year term as the association boss.

Bosire lauded County governor James Ongwae for paying the
pending bills to the association members saying it helps them to fast-track
projects on time.

He further promised to fight for the disabled and youth to
also get a share of the tenders advertised by the regional government.

‘’We don’t want to be seen as anti-youth, in fact we want
that more of them to establish firms to enable them pitch for many of the
tenders from both the national and county government,’’ said Bosire.

His sentiments were echoed by vice chairman Daniel Rabura
said that they will ensure the work done is perfect.

Organizing secretary Emmanuel Mwangi, Secretary General Hoffman
Ondieki said that they will ensure that all the contractors are paid well.

They urged the contractors to do the work according to the guidelines
laid down.
