Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya has officially launched the 2025 nationwide Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise, pledging a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and reaffirming the government’s commitment to a fair, transparent and inclusive process.
Speaking at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, Hon. Tuya underscored the importance of the annual exercise, describing it as a critical national undertaking aimed at replenishing KDF ranks, expanding new units and strengthening Kenya’s overall defence capacity.
“The recruitment exercise will strictly follow the Constitution, guaranteeing fairness, inclusivity and representation from all 47 counties,” she said.
The CS acknowledged that past recruitment drives had occasionally been marred by allegations of malpractice but clarified that investigations had led to arrests and disciplinary action where wrongdoing was proven. She, however, emphasized that many of the reported incidents involved fraudsters posing as KDF officers, cautioning Kenyans to be vigilant against impostors.
“The Ministry of Defence is collaborating closely with the National Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the National Intelligence Service to safeguard the integrity of the exercise,” Hon. Tuya explained.
She reiterated that the recruitment process is entirely free of charge and warned against any form of bribery or influence-peddling.
“Anyone attempting to influence the process through bribery will face immediate disqualification and prosecution,” the CS stated firmly.
Hon. Tuya also appealed to young Kenyans to seize the opportunity to serve their country, describing the recruitment as a vital step toward securing national stability and prosperity.
“This process is not just about filling positions,” she said.
“It’s about finding disciplined, patriotic young Kenyans ready to serve their country with courage and commitment.”
The CS further urged parents, religious leaders and community elders to promote honesty and integrity during the exercise, stressing that moral guidance from the community remains crucial in shaping disciplined recruits.

On his part, the Vice Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, cautioned the public against falling victim to fake recruitment schemes.
“The recruitment officially begins today,” he declared.
“Anyone claiming to have been recruited before this date has been misled. Any exercise outside the set timeline is illegal and not sanctioned by the KDF.”
Lieutenant General Omenda assured the public that KDF’s oversight mechanisms were well in place to ensure the process runs smoothly and without external interference.
Also present at the event were Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces (Personnel and Logistics) Major General Edward Rugendo, Chief Recruiting Officer Brigadier Samuel Kimani and other senior military officials.
The nationwide recruitment drive, which began today, is expected to attract thousands of aspiring servicemen and women eager to join the ranks of one of Africa’s most respected defence forces.
