The government’s revenue collection on the eCitizen platform has surpassed Ksh 900 million per day for the first time.
In a statement, Immigration and Citizen Services PS Julius Bitok has said,
“The latest data from the online access and payment platform for government services reveals that Ksh 903.6 million was collected on Wednesday 20th December 2023.”
Additionally,
“Of the amount, nearly a third was generated from transactions in US dollars totaling to $1,446,495 compared to the Ksh 680.4 million in the local currency.”
Bitok has also stated that Citizen currently has 11 million users.
Revenue collection in the country
This comes after President Ruto directed all government agencies to have their services on the digital eCitizen platform by the end of 2023.
During Jamhuri celebrations, Ruto said the collection of taxes had improved through the digitization program adopted by his government through the e-citizen program, adding that the technology has helped ‘reduce the leaking of funds and corruption’ in the government.
The president also directed that payments for all government services should be made through one paybill number 222222 to ensure better management and transparency in revenue collection.
Over 14,000 government services are currently available and payable through eCitizen
According to the National Treasury data, Bitok said revenue collection in November was KSh 4.664 billion up from Ksh 1.44 billion in June before the presidential directive was given.
Collections have been increasing since then with July, August, and September revenues standing at Ksh 2.362 billion, Ksh 3.636 billion, and Ksh 4.233 billion respectively.
