The government is prioritizing curb on Covid-19 spread in
the community as the number of cases rise to 700.
Speaking at Afya House Nairobi, during the daily Coronavirus
brief, Health CAS Sr. Rashid Aman said the ministry has expanded the testing
capacity from 2 laboratories to 16, as mass testing continues in high risk
areas.
“We prioritize to limit community spread of the virus in the
next months. I want to appeal to all Kenyans to be their brother’s keeper,
report to a nearby facility should one note Covid-19 symptoms,” said CAS Aman.
Dr. Aman said the ministry will support health officials, equipping
them with enough PPEs to help them keep the coronavirus at bay.
The community transmission so far has seen 19 out of 49
counties reporting positive cases, as contact tracing continues.
In the last 24 hours, the ministry tested 841 samples out of
which 28 people tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases
to 700.
Out of the 28, 7 cases are from Nairobi with Kenyatta
National Hospital recording 3 cases, Embakasi (2), Kibra (1) and Pumwani (1).
In Mombasa, patients who tested positive from Mvita
(3), Changamwe (2), Kisauni (2), Nyali
(2) and Likoni (1).
Two other patients are from Eldas and Tarbach in Wajir
County.
12 people have since been discharged bringing the total
number of recoveries from coronavirus to 251.
One patient who was at a health facility in Nairobi has died,
bringing the total number of deaths from the COVID-19 disease in Kenya is 33.
