The number
of coronavirus recovery cases in Kenya are now at 69 after the ministry of
health reported on Monday that people –including a medical officer –have recovered.

Health Cabinet
Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that out of the 13,872 sample tested, the COVID-19
infection cases in the country tallies to 281, with at least 14 deaths.

The Director
General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth said this numbers can be lower is the
public observes the set rules and guidelines to curb the spread of coronavirus
in the country.

“Based on
the interventions we have, and Kenyans adherence to set measures in the fight
against this disease, the numbers can be lower than expected,” said Dr. Amoth.

Dr. Amoth noted
that to continue keeping the virus at bay, the government maintains a constant
communication to those recovering from it, monitoring their health to ensure
that they are safe from reinfection.

“We are in
constant communication with them, monitoring them in case of any health issue
arising, we reach them,” said the DG health.

He added
that to ensure that the whole country stays safe, the ministry has isolated 56%
of the 281 persons infected, who are asymptomatic.

“56% of the 281
cases are asymptomatic, including Kelvin the driver at Homabay Kemri. This
cases do not show any symptoms to be treated from the virus and pose great
danger,” he added.

He also
cleared the air following a video that went viral on the internet, with Kelvin –the
driver isolated in Homabay –saying that asymptomatic do not get any treatment
since there no symptoms to be treated.

Dr. Amoth
further said that the rate of infection stands at 2%, conflicting with the
ministry’s projection of about 5,000 cases by mid-April.

He said that
the model they used was based on the susceptibility, symptomatic/asymptomatic
cases and the rate of testing –to help in preparing in terms of equipment and
medics required.
