The Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) is gearing up to
host the 15th Bukura Trade and Culture Exhibition at the Golf Hotel in Kakamega
town on 28th and 29th November 2019.
The two-day event is organized in partnership with the
Friedrich Naumann Foundation, and aims at catalyzing productivity, increasing
market access and promoting the cultural economy of Kenya’s Lake Region.
The theme of the exhibition will be “Show, Connect, Trade
and Grow,” and revolve around trade and exhibition of products by corporates
and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
It will also include a showcase of indigenous foods from
Western Kenya, a showcase of smart innovations in agribusiness dubbed the ‘IREN
Technologies and Innovations Platform Expo 2019’ as well as thematic
discussions around the topics of innovation by SMEs and the gig economy as the
future of work.
Some of the innovations that will be exhibited at the
mega-event include smart solutions in finance, security, labour enhancement,
markets and big data.
The event will also feature traditional dances and music
entertainment from Western Kenya.
“There is need to navigate the interplay between culture,
business and emerging trends in an inclusive manner to improve living standards
in Africa,” said Mr. James Shikwati, Director of Inter Region Economic Network
