LUGARI, Kenya – Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli has urged Kenyans to boycott Climax Coaches following the mysterious death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.

The youthful lawmaker spoke during the burial service of the late Jirongo at Lumakanda Grounds in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County.

“I want to appeal to all Kenyans to boycott that bus company (Climax Coaches) until we have a closure on this matter,” said Wakoli.

Wakoli demanded that the bus company make public the identities of the passengers of the bus which was involved in a head-on collision with Jirongo’s car in Naivasha.

What the Eagol Petrol Station CCTV footage showed

CCTV footage from Eagol Petrol Station in Naivasha has raised fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of the former Cabinet minister.

The footage contradicts claims by the Climax Bus driver that Jirongo was overtaking other vehicles in heavy traffic at around 2:00 am, moments before the fatal head-on collision. Instead, it shows the road was clear, with no traffic, and that Jirongo was not overtaking.

“He was overtaking a line of vehicles. If he had waited, this would not have happened,” Githinji said.

The footage also captures a mysterious vehicle entering the petrol station shortly after Jirongo, which security experts believe may have been tailing the former MP.

What did the Climax Coaches bus driver say

Addressing the press at the Naivasha Police station after the accident, Tiras Kamau Githinji Kamau, the driver of the Climax Coaches Bus, confirmed that the accident occurred early this morning and involved his bus and a Mercedes-Benz saloon car colliding head-on.

“The Mercedes Benz was coming from a petroleum station, and I was travelling from Nairobi to Busia. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz didn’t give way. When he joined the highway, he noticed there was a heavy traffic jam, so he decided to join my lane; that is when we collided,” said Kamau.

"Cyrus Jirongo, you knew your friends, and you knew those who were pretending with you, Cyrus, give us a signal…"- David Wakoli pic.twitter.com/J9HBrXyGNq

Kamau, who has worked for the bus company for 8 years, further said:

“The Mercedes-Benz had one passenger, who was the driver, and my bus had 65 passengers. I tried to avoid colliding with him, but I realised that my bus could have easily gone down. At first, I didn’t know who was in the saloon car, but it was later, after the police arrived at the scene, that I was told it was Hon. Cyrus Jirongo. Pole sana.”
