Mombasa businessman and Nyali parliamentary aspirant Said Abdalla has urged candidates at Maweni Junior School to maintain discipline and strive for academic excellence as they sit their national examinations this week.

Abdalla, who met the candidates on Monday, October 19, at the school, said hard work and discipline were key to becoming responsible and successful citizens.
The meeting was led by the school head teacher, Ms Fadhili Saumu Salim, who presented success cards to the candidates.
The aspirant challenged the learners to honour the sacrifices of their parents who struggle to provide for their education amid tough economic times.
He said the success cards will be distributed to all candidates in Nyali Sub-county.
“Make your parents proud. They are undergoing economic hardships, searching for food and money to pay for your education. Make them proud by getting good results that will take you forward,” Abdalla said during the event attended by News9.africa.
Mr Abdalla also called on parents to remain vigilant and protect their children during the long December holiday, cautioning that idleness could expose them to social vices such as drug abuse and crime.
KPSEA, KJSEA exams
The school head, Ms Salim, said preparations for this year’s Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) for Grade 6 and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) for Grade 9 were complete, expressing optimism that the school would post impressive results.
She said at least 274 candidates will sit the examinations at the centre located at the Maweni informal settlements in Nyali sub-county.
She, however, noted with regret that the school had lost two learners who were among the candidates earlier this year.
The engagement with the schools in the region is part of Mr Abdalla’s outreach programme targeting education stakeholders in Nyali Constituency, where he has been supporting schools and empowering youth.
