HOMA BAY, Kenya – With the clock fast ticking towards the August 10, 2027 General Election, the Suba North parliamentary seat in Homa Bay County continues to attract various candidates seeking to unseat area MP Millie Odhiambo Mabona.
For years, Akali has been on a relentless quest for the Suba North parliamentary seat. His political journey began while he was still at the university, and he has since contested the constituency in both 2017 and 2022.

Throughout that period, his message has remained consistent. He has repeatedly promised to bring change by sending Millie home. Just a few days ago, while addressing a public gathering, he once again vowed that Suba North deserves new leadership and a fresh direction.
On the other hand, Victor Ndiege has echoed a similar message. He has openly argued that Millie has failed the people of Suba North and should step aside to allow the constituency to experience meaningful development under new leadership.
Silas Jakakimba weighs in on the Suba North MP race
Prominent Kenyan advocate, political strategist, and businessman Silas Jakakimba has also been vocal, repeatedly calling for what he describes as a change of diet in the constituency’s leadership.
According to Jakakimba, who is widely recognised for his long tenure as a close aide and political advisor to the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga (deceased), it is time for the people of Suba North to embrace change.
“The Leadership and Development Software in Suba North, which is the diet, is long overdue for an overhaul,” Jakakimba posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter) on June 7, 2026, after attending the burial ceremony of Fabian Wilberforce Seko Otieno in Mfangano.

While reacting to Jakakimba’s entry into the Suba North parliamentary race, Mwalimu Wuod Ruoth observed that move is not the emergence of another candidate; it is the arrival of a political phenomenon whose time has inexorably come.
“This is not merely an election; it is a referendum on the future of Suba North. His clarion call, “Dayat Nyaka Loki”, change the diet, is far more than a catchy political slogan. It is an ideological declaration against political monotony, complacency, and recycled leadership. It is a revolutionary appeal for intellectual renewal, visionary governance, and transformational representation,” explained Mwalimu Wuod Ruoth.
At one point, Abe Wuod Ruoth also expressed interest in contesting the parliamentary seat, citing what he described as failed leadership in the constituency.
Shifting political landscape in Suba North constituency
However, many political observers believed his candidature served a different purpose.
“The perception was that his entry into the race would divide the mainland vote while Millie maintained her strong support on the islands, a strategy that I considered politically effective at the time,” said David Otieno, a political analyst and commentator from the region.
A recent spotlight in the region confirmed that the political landscape appears to have shifted. Ironically, today, some of the very people who once campaigned against Millie are now working alongside her.
Akali faces an uphill task in the battle for the Lambwe vote
For instance, news9.africa has established that Akali has become part of a strategy aimed at splitting the Lambwe vote.
Analysts observed that, however, it is a serious political miscalculation. Lambwe remains firmly behind Eng. Alima, and Akali is unlikely to achieve the objective many believe he has been assigned.
“There comes a moment when a community stops asking whether change is possible and starts asking who is ready to lead it. Across Suba North, that conversation is becoming louder with every passing day. People are looking for integrity, competence, and a leader who understands that true leadership is measured by the lives it transforms,” says Calvin Odhiambo, a voter in the Suba North constituency.

For many years, Odhiambo reiterates that Eng SAO Alima represents that hope.
“A hope rooted in service, strengthened by experience, and driven by a genuine desire to see every corner of Suba North thrive. The next chapter of our constituency is ours to write, and it begins with believing that better is possible,” adds Odhiambo.
Abe Wuod Ruoth’s strategy in the Suba North MP race
Political circles are also awash with speculation that Victor Ndiege’s role is to consolidate support in Rusinga before eventually directing those votes elsewhere.
Strategists aligned to both camps held discussions at Rusinga Lodge to explore possible political cooperation.
Abe Wuod Ruoth is also returning to the race with the mission of dividing votes in the mainland, particularly in Kasgunga and Gembe wards. At the same time, Jakakimba is widely believed to be working to ensure that support from Mfangano remains intact until the appropriate political moment.
“The Leadership Button for Suba North MUST be handed over to Team DAYAT towards a holistic turnaround in the constituency’s overall development and intentional creation of sustainable opportunities for our youths – in the next 1 year and 1 month, God-willing. The 20-yr window for complacency ends a day before the ballot. Nothing less. Nothing more,” Jakakimba posted on his X account on June 16, 2026.
Why politicians should be wary of Suba North voters
According to analysts, what these politicians may not fully appreciate is that the people of Suba North have become increasingly aware of such political strategies.
“Voters have learned from previous elections and are watching events unfold with keen interest. When the time comes, they will make their decision at the ballot box. Until then, the political players may continue to enjoy the confusion, but the final verdict will belong to the people,” Otieno further says.

She transitioned into elective politics, winning the Mbita parliamentary seat and subsequently securing the confidence of her Suba North constituents over successive terms.
It is now a matter of wait and see as the regional political landscape remains highly dynamic with several shifting alliances unfolding in the build-up to the 2027 General Election.
