President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that the war on graft will be intensified in the near future to have those implicated face punitive punishments.
Speaking during the State of the Nation address, which was held held at the National Assembly on Thursday, the president said those who will be found with graft cases will have to resign from their jobs.
“As I have I said and done before, I once again undertake that anyone whose case goes before court will be removed from government will thereafter have to answer their case before a court of law,” said President Uhuru.
The Head of State also said that it is only through the law that the war on graft will be undertaken, dismissing public protests and vigilante justice.
“I must say that I have been under pressure that who am I sacking? But I must, however, caution that the pursuit of the corrupt will be undertaken strictly within the remits of the law. It will not be done through vigilante justice and pitchfork protest,” said the President.
He added that no one will be convicted before proven guilty.
“Though media narratives rally our resolve as they should, our actions will not be based on condemnation before one has been heard. The cornerstone of our democracy is the rule of law, and the principle of due process is a critical anchor.” he said.
The President’s message comes even as four Cabinet Secretaries are in the watch by the Director of Criminal Investigation following Arror and Kamwarer dam scandal.
The four include Treasury CS Henry Rotich, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, Trade CS Peter Munya and Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri.
