22 more people have tested positive for Covid-19, raising the
number of confirmed cases in Kenya to 81 from yesterday’s 59.

Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe has said out of the
300 samples tested in 24hours, 22 have tested positive for the virus. He termed
the figure as the largest number ever received in the country in one day and
300 is also the largest number tested in a single day.

21 people out of the 22 who have been tested are among
individuals in mandatory quarantine while the remaining one is in Mombasa
Hospital.

Of the 22 confirmed cases, 18 are Kenyans, 2 are from Pakistan,
and 2 are from Cameroon.

Kagwe has explained that the 22 people are from various
counties but they are already in quarantine in Nairobi and not residing in
those counties. They were placed in quarantine on arrival at JKIA.

The new cases are from from Nairobi, Machakos, Kilifi,
Nyamira, Murang’a, Kakamega, Kiambu, and Mombasa counties with two being
foreign nationals.

In response to Brenda’s recovery (patient 1), the CS has
termed her a hero and a responsible Kenyan for having gone to Mbagathi once she
started feeling unwell.

He added that many positive Coronavirus cases are from people
who travelled, urging Kenyans to self-quarantine and call for help if they
exhibit symptoms, and for those who travelled outside the country to self-quarantine
as well.

All the patients are doing well, except one who is at Agha
Khan Hospital in ICU on a ventilator, but is responding to treatment, and has
been given chloroquine and an antibiotic to manage the conditions.

Kagwe has also added that food trucks can operate freely
during curfew.
