MP Caleb Amisi rallies Linda Mwananchi group to ditch ODM: “Chama ilienda kitambo”

NAIROBI, Kenya – Outspoken Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has urged his colleagues in the Linda Mwananchi faction to ditch the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), stating that they were no longer needed there.

The Linda Mwananchi faction is a political grouping within the ODM party, associated with leadership figures such as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East) and Amisi (Saboti), among others.

The group is potentially linked to broader internal disputes over legitimacy and party structures.

“Many parallel ODM events only play into his (President William Ruto’s) favour. He is happy and smiling at your political stupidity. If ODM does not want us, it is high time we make the unfortunate decision and move forward. It is the only feasible and easiest way out,” Amisi posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The lawmaker’s remarks came hours after two parallel ODM rallies in Nairobi, highlighting internal party divisions, with one event held at the ASK Dome during the Special Delegates Convention, led by ODM leader Oburu Odinga.

The other rally was organised by Sifuna, the embattled secretary general at Ufungamano House, and attended by key figures like Siaya Governor James Orengo and Babu Owino.

Raila Odinga’s political operandi

Amisi, serving his second term in Parliament, reflected how the late ODM leader Raila Odinga used to walk away from parties and causes he no longer believed in and pursue public interest in other formations.

“We cannot sing Raila’s praises morning to evening and be afraid to practise and take risks he took to achieve his goals. Chama ilienda kitambo. The train must now leave the station! Kenya needs a renaissance!” said the youthful MP.

According to MP Amis, salvaging a country from the yoke of dictatorship is not child’s play.

“We must be very intentional about it. No jokes. No hidden intentions. No tribal groupings. No Kiburi. No time wasting. You are not welcoming Ruto in your constituency/county functions on one day, and the next day you are yapping in rallies against him. You are confusing supporters,” Amisi further said.

How to remove Ruto from power

The legislator observed that President Ruto cannot be removed from power through ethnic mobilisation.

“They (the government) have the resources and wherewithal to divide and rule. It must be a national call for action, and the time is nigh!” added the MP.

Speaking at the Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County on Sunday, March 29, 2026, during a Linda Mwananchi rally, Sifuna insisted that he can’t recognise an ODM that has no Raila.

“I can’t recognise an ODM that is sending away its members like Osotsi, who was given the deputy party leader position by Baba himself. Who are you that wants to take away Osotsi’s seat?” said Sifuna in reference to Oburu’s led Linda Ground faction.

Sifuna distances himself from Oburu

The Nairobi senator maintained that he will no longer be party to Oburu’s faction following Osotsi’s recent ouster from the party.

“I want to say here today, as Sifuna, that ODM cannot be a party that sends its members away. This is because Baba established and built the Orange party to accommodate everyone,” added Sifuna.

Salvaging a country from yoke of dictatorship is not a child play.

We must be very intentional about it.

With the clock fast ticking towards the August 10, 2027, General Election, these disparate events and developments point to factional differences within the ODM, especially with regard to strategic orientation and leadership.

Oburu’s recent official installation at the main convention highlights an attempt to solidify power, but the growing divisions suggest that there is still disagreement or different ideas inside the party.
