About one
million vulnerable Kenyans are expected to receive social protection funds
amounting to Kshs. 8,737,560,000, by Monday November 18.

The money, channeled through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection will be paid
out to 1,092,195 cash transfer
beneficiaries, with each of the beneficiaries receiving Sh8,000 to cover
the two payment cycles of July/August
and September /October 2019.

Social
Protection Principal Secretary Nelson Marwa has said the beneficiaries or
caregivers can access the payment at any time over the next six months.

“In the new
payment model, beneficiaries and caregivers can access their funds within six
months after the money is credited to their accounts. We have cleaned up the
payroll and are sure that only genuine members are benefiting under the
scheme,” said Mr. Marwa.

Those to
benefit are beneficiaries who successfully opened bank accounts for the
three programmes under the Consolidated Cash Transfer Programme (CCTP) by
October 15th 2019.

Under the
programme, beneficiary is allowed to either withdraw all or a portion of this
amount.

They will receive
their payments through listed Payment Service Providers including Co-operative
Bank, Equity Bank Ltd, Kenya Commercial Bank and Post Bank.

Beneficiary
or caregivers will producing their Inua Jamii payment cards and
Identity card to receive the payments. But those going for payment for the
first time must transact biometrically.

Marwa said
the new system will ensure that only genuine beneficiaries receive the cash and
that it will weed out any bogus people.

“The new
system is expected to be efficient to enable beneficiaries of the programme to
receive their stipend through bank accounts only,” he said.
