MIGORI, Kenya – A political showdown is looming in the Uriri constituency within Migori County as the clock ticks to the August 10, 2027, General election.

Already, some notable politicians have expressed their interest in succeeding the incumbent, Mark Nyamita, who is currently serving his second consecutive term.

Listed as 10 for administrative sub-counties (constituencies) within Migori County, Uriri is bordered by several other constituencies, including Kuria East, Kuria West, Suna West, Nyatike, Suna East, Awendo and Rongo.

According to political observers, George Oywer has emerged as the leading candidate for the coveted seat, which Nyamita has held since August 2017.

Political commentator Gichuru Samwel observes that Oywer is a proven leader for Uriri’s future post the 2010 Kenya Constitution promulgation.

“As we look towards the upcoming elections, it’s clear that Uriri deserves a leader who is tried, tested, and proven. Hon. George has consistently demonstrated his commitment to our community and has the vision needed to propel Uriri forward,” Samuel said.

Why George Oywer is emerging as a force to reckon in the Uriri MP race

While reacting to Oywer’s experience, which he termed as counts, Samuel noted:

“With years of dedicated service, Hon. Oywer has built a legacy of integrity and progress. His hands-on leadership style has transformed our local initiatives and improved countless lives. Time and again, he has earned the respect of colleagues and constituents alike. His track record speaks volumes about his capabilities and dedication.”

Samuel was also quick to single out Oywer’s innovative solutions for the challenges facing the people of Uriri.

“Hon. Oywer isn’t just about promises; he’s about delivering results. From enhancing our local infrastructure to supporting education and healthcare, his initiatives have made a lasting impact,” he said.

It should not go without saying that early this year, Oywer travelled to South Korea, where he successfully sealed training partnerships for the youth of Uriri.

A true advocate of the people

Additionally, Samuel stated that Oywer is a “true advocate for the people.”

“He (Oywer) listens to our concerns and amplifies our voices. Hon. Oywer believes that the best ideas come from within our community, and he ensures that every voice is heard. As we prepare for the elections, let us unite behind a leader who has proven time and again that he is the right choice for Uriri. Join us in supporting Hon. Oywer for Member of Parliament, and let’s build a brighter future together!” Samuel further explained.
