Presenter suspended over barbaric comments on slain Moi University student

A presenter on Mtaani Show on Homeboyz Radio has been suspended
over insensitive comments regarding the murder of Moi University student Ivy
Wangeci.

Wangeci was hacked to death by a man claimed to be his boyfriend
Naftali Kinuthia in Eldoret at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

During the show, a presenter by the name Didgie made it
clear that the deceased deserved to die. “She died because she wasn’t loyal. That
is the truth” he continued to say, “UkiDate dereva atakunyonga na seatbelt.
Msee wa butchery atakuchinja”. (If you date a driver, he or she will strangle
you using a seatbelt.If it is a butcher he will chop you).

The show was also suspended for further investigations. A statement
released by the Group Managing Director read, “After reviewing the show recording
we have found the comments made to be in extremely poor taste and apologize
without reservation.”

It added, “We have removed the show from the schedule pending
further investigation. The presenter in question has also been immediately suspended
by the station.”

There has been a lot of speculation on social media about
the motive behind Kinuthia’s uncouth attack but the police are yet to give an official
statement.
