NAIROBI, Kenya – A group of leaders allied to the United Opposition has maintained that they will stick together in efforts aimed at unseating President William Ruto through the 2027 General Election.

The leaders spoke on Friday, September 26, 2025, when they attended the People’s Liberation Party'(PLP’s) special National Delegates Conference (NDC) at the Ufungamano House in Nairobi.

“We will continue to stand together. We are the Government-In-Waiting, ready to rescue our country from a regime that has betrayed its people,” said Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader.

Apart from Kalonzo, other leaders present included Martha Karua (PLP), Rigathi Gachagua (DCP), Justin Muturi (DP), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), Mithika Linturi among others. Notably absent was presidential hopeful, Fred Matiang’i who was attending the Jubilee Party’s NDC alongside its leader former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

When he took to the podium, Gachagua took issue with President Ruto accusing him of attempting to divide the opposition.

“He (William Ruto) is creating confusion in the opposition. But I want to ask our fellow Kenyans to be alert. To my fellow co-principals, let us stick together because we can’t afford to allow Ruto to take us back,” claimed Gachagua.

Today, I joined my sister @MarthaKarua at the @PLPartyKenya NDC alongside my brothers @skmusyoka, @rigathi, @HonJBMuturi , and @mithika_Linturi I left energized, inspired, and more confident than ever. Kalonzo further claimed that President Ruto had turned Kenya into a hub for money laundering, forcing the international community to grey-list the East African nation.

“And now at the United Nations, we see him attempting reputation laundering, speaking about conflicts in Sudan while conveniently ignoring the fact that his government has openly backed RSF and that Kenyan arms have been traced in that brutal war,” Kalonzo further said.

How the United Opposition plans to defeat President William Ruto

According to Karua, each party in the opposition has brought vision, courage and determination into their democratic arena.

“Competition sharpens our ideas but cooperation strengthens our course. To dismantle the machinery of oppression, and restore the promise of our constitution, we must form a broad, united front. Unity is not a choice, it is our duty to the people of Kenya and that is why you see my brothers coming here today to proclaim that unity is our duty to the people of Kenya,” Karua said.

The PLP leader further claimed that Kenya had endured betrayal.

“Betrayal of trust, institutions and people’s hope. The incumbent regime has chosen corruption over integrity. They have chosen impunity over justice and propaganda over service. Kenyans are hurting yet they deserve better. But let me say this clearly, we shall not walk this road alone. We acknowledge the other parties and leaders,” added Karua.

Muturi said that as the United Opposition, they were happy to be at the PLP’s event hosted by Karua.

“Today, we want to prove to the country because we have been seeing number of doubting Thomas’s making claims about the place of this movement. Our presence here is a testament that we are here for the long-haul to accomplish the one term dream,” Muturi said.

Why the United Opposition has declared war on President William Ruto

The Democratic Party of Kenya leader said that the United Opposition had given him and the rest some responsibility to address the issue of restorative justice to many Kenyans who have suffered under the current ruling regime.

” want to assure you that we are moving, we are making progress. It is only that we must establish robust systems that the president and his various teams cannot frustrate because we believe that there are still so many Kenyans who today, do not know where their loved ones are. There are others who know their people were killed, but there are others who don’t know where their kin are but the president has stood on a global podium and stated the direct opposite about this issue,” Muturi explained.

The former Public Service Cabinet secretary said that his former boss, President Ruto must be held answerable to these crimes.

“It cannot be business as usual. We must restore the rule of law,” Muturi added.

Meanwhile, Muturi told the gathering to brand any of his co-principal who goes astray as betrayer.

“If you see one of us go astray, just know they are betrayers. We want to tell you that we are united and we don’t want to be told by William Ruto what our manifesto entails,” said Muturi.
