Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has slammed former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua over remarks to defend the Kalenjin community.

Gachagua, who spoke in Bomet on Sunday, February 22, vowed to stand with the Kalenjin community and defend them against the bad governance of President William Ruto’s administration.
What Gachagua said in Bomet
He promised to stand with Bomet residents every step of the way to liberty, noting that bad policy cuts across the country
“I have heard your cry, I will be with you every step of the way. Kenya belongs to all of us. A bad policy cuts across every Kenyan. You deserve to be heard and have equal opportunity in Kenya,” said Gachagua.
In response, Senator Cheruiyot warned Gachagua against his political moves in the region, following his debasing and disparaging of the community.
Aaron Cheruiyot’s message to United Opposition leaders
“The Kericho senator said that the region has not appointed any spokesperson to defend the community. We have not seen what you did as a deputy president in two years before you were impeached. Stop the politics of theatrics and division. It is better we remain without anyone to defend us if you are the only one in Kenya,” said Cheruiyot.
The senator noted that Kenyans know what President Ruto has done, from his time as a deputy to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We understand the partnership we have with the president. We know what he has done for us, what has not been done, and what is in the plan… we will include everything when the right time comes – 2027 campaigns,” he revealed.
Message to Fred Matiang’i
The senator did not leave out former interior CS Fred Matiang’i, noting that misrule, corruption, and human rights violations will continue to haunt him.
“Do not tell us you brought sanity to the examination council… that you will protect your votes. You have zero votes… you have nothing to be stolen from you,” Cheruiyot blasted Matiang’i.
This followed the Gusii region tour, during which Mating’i was crowned the voice of the Abagusii community ahead of the 2027 General Election.
