Orange Democratic Movement ( ODM ), through its Secretary General Party Leader, Edwin Sifuna, has expressed major concern about Kisii Governor Simba Arati’s life following meted attacks on the governor in broad daylight.

Speaking in Kisii, on Friday, January 12, Edwin Sifuna who is also the Senator of Nairobi, said the continuous attacks on Simba Arati are something outrageous and uncalled for.

“The ODM party wishes to express a serious concern about the life and safety of Kisii Governor, Simba Arati, following repeated violent attacks perpetrated by known persons in broad daylight with what appears to be tacit support and collaboration with elements in the security forces,” said Sifuna, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

Sifuna, who was addressing Journalists in Kisii, gave a final demand of 14 weeks so that the police can bring perpetrators to book and failure to do that they will have no option but to tour other avenues to address the incident.

“Should any harm come to our party’s National Vice-chair and Governor of Kisii, Simba Arati, as a result of a subsequent attack against him, the persons named here including Osoro, Police Commander Charles Kasses and the IG of Police will be held personally responsible,” he said.

On Saturday, January 6, a group of individuals arrived at South Mugirango, a sub-county led by  Sylvanus Osoro, at a funeral event which was attended by Governor Arati, and started firing arrows aimlessly under the watch of police.

The incident was reported at Nyamarambe police station but shockingly, people responsible for the crime have not been arrested, according to Sifuna.

The same script played out at Nyakembene in the same constituency, South Mugirango, but this time it was likely to have adverse consequences when the individuals popped up armed. Sifuna attributed these reprehensible scenes to South Mugirango MP, Sylvanus Osoro.

“It turned out that those gunmen were police officers. One of the officers captured firing at the crowds with an AK-47 rifle was identified as Kevin Lagat of Force Number 26085, he is a police constable attached to Osoro, Simon Muriithi of Force Number 119319 and Peter Muge of Force Number 239197.”

Sifuna called for speedy action from the IG of police in driving out Kisii County Commander.

“We take this opportunity to condemn the actions of Osoro and the police and demand that the Police IG immediately transfer the Kisii County Commander and that action must be taken against the officers identified in the attacks. They should be interdicted as they wait for their date with justice,” he added.
