Kiambu County Assemby Members have impeached Governor
Ferdinand Waititu.
A total of 63 MCAs present in the house voted to oust the
embattled governor, with 28 failing to turn up.
The governor got a single vote from one member who voted
against the move.
The MCAs moved a motion saying Waititu breached the public
procurement and disposal act when he allegedly influencing the award of
lucrative tenders to companies associated with his immediate family and close
relatives.
They also said that the governor hired over 600 casuals
without the involvement of the County Public Service Board before later firing
them, a move that exposed the county to risk of multiple suits and loss of
public funds.
The county boss was also accused to have violated the
Constitution of Kenya by forcefully dispossessing and unlawfully occupying the
property of Cecilia Njoki Mbugua, a Thika widow.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Nyoro impeachment motion failed
to materialize after Witeithie MCA Macharia Taki, who was to push it, failed to
appear.
Waititu adds to list of Governors impeached in the country,
with the latest being the Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja, who was
acquitted by senate.
Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, his Murang’a counterpart
Mwangi wa Iria and the late Nderitu Gachagua(Nyeri) survived after the senate
quashed their impeachment plan by MCAs.
