The government and residents of Kiambu County are mourning
the death of Kahawa Wendani MCA, Mr. Cyrus Omondi popularly known as “GearBox.”
The saddening news came on Wednesday, evening barely hours
after the burial of the former and second President of Kenya, late Daniel
Toroitich Arap Moi at his home in Kabarak.
Mr. Omondi had travelled to India for official duties, where
he was found dead in his hotel room.
Details on the cause of his sudden death were not
established by the time of going to the press.
Residents received the bad news with a lot of grief, sending
their message of condolences to the family members and the entire Kahawa
Wendani ward.
Kimbu leaders sending their condolences to the family and
friends have described Mr. Omondi as a man who cherished humanity and had a
passion seeing to the development of Wendani ward.
Through his twitter handle, nominated senator Isaac Mwaura
tweeted, “Shocked to learn of the death of my longtime friend and comrade MCA
Cyrus Omondi of Kahawa Wendani ward, in Ruiru, Kiambu County. A great man
indeed who overcame so many odds to be an MCA in a predominantly Kikuyu
constituency, Omondi stood firm for his people… ”
Another tweet @Cosmic_Boom read, “Shocked!!Cyrus Omondi has
done quite a tremendous job for Kahawa Wendani from regular roads maintenance
to street lighting, water supply etc. Guys are literally crying here and in the
last few minutes guys were in the streets crying and shouting, Kiambu County…”
