Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi has recovered from
Covid-19.
During the Ministry of Health daily briefing, Cabinet
Secretary Mutahi Kagwe added that the course of the law would take effect, following
Saburi’s recovery.
Saburi jetted into the country on March 6 and went to Mombasa
Hospital for check-up where he was admitted for three days. He later
quarantined himself for three days. After that, he attended a funeral with Kilifi
Governor Amason Kingi.
Later on he was put under mandatory quarantine, where he has
since recovered. As of March 28, Saburi had been in quarantine for the sixth day
meaning he has recovered on his 11th day in isolation.
According the public health act CAP 242, any person who while
suffering from any infectious disease, willfully exposes himself without proper
precautions against spreading the said disease in any public place shall be
guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding 30, 000 shillings or to
imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or both.
Over the weekend, Saburi, however, apologized to Kenyans
saying when he arrived in Kenya from Germany, the quarantine guidelines were
not clear adding that the foreign country was not a Covid-19 hotspot by then.
Kagwe also revealed that Kenya has 29 new confirmed cases of
Coronavirus from 662 samples taken in 24 hours. This raises the number of positive
cases in the country to 110 from yesterday’s 81. The 29 consist of 28 Kenyans
and one Congolese.
Kenya has lost two more Coronavirus patients bringing the death
toll in the country to 3.
The CS expressed his displeasure in the rumors doing rounds
on social media that Brenda and Brian’s recovery expose was a public relations
spectacle.
Besides boda boda operators and passengers, Kagwe has also
advised tuk tuk and matatu drivers and passengers to wear masks. He has
discouraged Nairobi residents from travelling upcountry and from one county to
another to prevent the spread of the virus.
He added that Kenya has passed the tests required before
starting the manufacturing of masks and has begun local production today. The government
also plans to recruit additional 6000 health practitioners to help curb the
spread of Covid-19.
