Counties affected by COVID-19 outbreak in Kenya

Kisumu
County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has urged residents to stay at home in the wake
of coronavirus suspected outbreak in neighbouring Siaya County.

The governor
said the number of people quarantined in the county facility has grown, calling
for alarm.

“My dear
County men and Women, it has come to our suspected COVID–19 cases from Siaya
County have had interactions with a lot of people in Kisumu, with the situation
heightening the number of people being quarantined in our isolation facilities,”
said governor Nyong’o

The county
boss added that the county’s health system has been overstretched, appealing to
the public to STAY AT HOME and avoid visits to public places.

He added
that residents can only go out to buy provisions or visit a health facility where
need arise.

“The County
Government hereby suspends provision of immediate effect, however, departments
of Health and Sanitation, Finance, Water and Environment, Veterinary Services, Disaster
and Emergency Services, Field Administration and Enforcement shall remain operational
both at the City and the County Government,” said the governor.

This comes
even as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country escalates to 25, with more
than 600 contacts suspected to have come in contact with those affected being
traced.

Health
Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said on Tuesday that at least four Counties have
been affected by the novel coronavirus.

These counties
include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale. Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi
is under self-isolation after coming to contact with his deputy governor,
