Nairobi, Kenya – National Assembly minority leader, Opiyo Wandayi, who is also a Ugunja legislator, has claimed that former vice-president, Kalonzo Musyoka, can have an easy time when he meets President William Ruto in a presidential ballot.
The Ugunja MP affirmed that the Azimio La Umoja coalition shall remain uncommunicative on who can be fronted in the 2027 presidential race until they feel it is right to do so.
When will Azimio appoint 2027 presidential flagbearer
Wandayi stated that the coalition is very much aware that the political class can still undergo massive changes before the 2027 General Election and therefore revealing their flagbearer now doesn’t quite sit well.
The legislator, however, assured the candidate the coalition will parade in the next election cycle will receive unwavering support.
“As a political coalition it is our view that once the opposition makes a decision at an opportune time as to who shall fly the flag, we shall support that person wholeheartedly. It could be Azimio, it could be something else but again you know that 2027 is still very far. The political landscape is going to change there will be alignments and realignments between now and the next election,” said Wandayi, as reported by Daily Nation.
Wandayi’s sentiments are coming amid a puzzle in the Azimio Coalition after Kalonzo Musyoka reiterated his stance on taking President Ruto in the next election.
Raila Odinga has remained tight-lipped on whether he will try his luck again on the ballot.
Wandayi highlighted that the door is open to anyone with ambition to become the Coalition’s presidential flag-bearer and all eyes should not be directed to the two political powerhouses.
“Raila Odinga has more than the capacity to be the president of the country, Kalonzo also has the credentials and so are many others within the Azimio coalition,” he pointed out.
The Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, on Tuesday, January 2, expressed his optimism about the race to State House, 2027, stating being on the ballot will be the very last bullet to cease his ambition to become Kenyan President.
“If I was ready in 2002, 2013 why do you think I will not be ready in 2027? The right time has come for this country to recognize a leader they have always rejected. I have played on the team, and I have selflessly supported others. If the county is ready for it, I will go for it,” he stated during an interview with NTV.
