The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has sacked Taifa Stars Head Coach Adel Amrouche over his comments on Morroco.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) earlier on banned Amrouche for 8 games over his comments on Morocco.

He claimed that the North African nation has an influence in CAF that makes its national team get favourable treatment in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) games.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) lodged a complaint against Coach Amrouche over his sentiments.

RMFF complained that Amrouche made accusations that the North African nation has an influence within CAF in match scheduling and officiating.

TFF’s stance on Amrouche’s remarks

The Tanzania Football Federation distanced itself from sentiments made by Amrouche.

Amrouche said that Morocco runs African Football and gets to pick the match official they want for their match.

TFF President Wallace Karia said in a statement,

“We don’t support the statement by our head coach Adel, we categorically do not support the statement as we respect Morocco for their hard work in developing football and will know what to do regarding the coach’s careless provocative statement.”

The 2022 World Cup Semi-Finalists Morocco’s Atlas Lions beat Tanzania’s Taifa Stars 3-0 as they began their campaign at Afcon.

The Tanzanian side was later in the match forced to play against Morocco less one man in Ivory Coast, as Novatus Miroshi was sent off in the 70th minute.

Way forward for Taifa Stars

In a statement seen by News9 Kenya, Hemed Morocco has been appointed as the acting coach of Taifa Stars with Juma Mgunda as the assistant coach.

The team is set to play their second group game against Zambia in San Pedro on Sunday.

Afcon games continue

Morocco will also play against DR Congo on Sunday.

Afcon games continue as international football stars like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane grace the tournament.

However, Liverpool’s Salah will miss the next two matches for Egypt following a muscle injury. It was initially stated that the star had a hamstring injury but Egypt later confirmed it was a muscle injury.

Sadio Mane‘s side Senegal dashed Cameroon’s hopes to the round of 16 stage in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2024 in Ivory Coast.

The reigning African champions, The Lions of Teranga, beat the Cameroon side 3-1, granting them a direct entry to the knockout stages.
