EPL transfer gossip: Tottenham beats Manchester United in Jean-Clair Todibo’s transfer talks

Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo could move to Tottenham in the January 2024 transfer window.

This came as Ange Postecoglou held early talks with Nice, as his top January transfer target.

Todibo rejected interest from Manchester United in the summer after claiming he was saving himself for the right project, TalkSport reported.

Why Todibo may not sign for Man U

This proves to be a major setback for the Red Devils, who are not planning to spend big in the upcoming transfer window.

Nice owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s plan to complete the purchase of a 25% stake in the Red Devils for £1.25 billion (KSh 245.2 billion) imminently could as well stop Todibo’s move to Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old has been playing for Nice and contributed to the club’s elevation to League 1, seating five points behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Todibo’s appearance at Nice

The France international made 14 appearances for Nice season in the first eleven, providing one assist during that time.

Todibo won two caps for France, making his senior debut in September against Germany before facing Gibraltar in November 2023.

He joined the League 1 club in 2021, after spending loan spells with Schalke, Benfica and Nice before signing for them.

He has played for Barcelona, making five appearances after joining the Camp Nou side from Toulouse in 2019.

EPL table 2023/24

The English Premier League side Tottenham seats fifth place with 33 points, five points clear against Manchester United.

The Spurs are keen to securing the Champions League spot, having played 17 games, winning 10, drawing 3 and losing 4 matches.

Manchester United are at position seven with 28 points, having played 17 games, winning 9, drawing 1 and losing seven matches.

The Erik ten Hag’s side will be losing Donny van de Beek who is set to exit to Eintracht Frankfurt in the January transfer window.

Raphael Varane, Casemiro and Jadon Sancho are among the most high-profile players being considered to leave Old Trafford, Mirror reported.

Arsenal remain firm at the top with 39 points, followed closely by Liverpool with 38 points after both playing 17 games.

The Reds have maintained a tight competition aimed at unseating the Gunners at the top, following their comeback victory against Fulham on December 3, 2023.
