Andre Onana has not been featured in the Cameroon AFCON squad. The Manchester United player who is currently playing for Trabzonspor on loan was not selected by David Pagou, a new head coach who replaced Marc Brys, who was sacked by Cameroonian football federation president, Samuel Etoo.

Etoo and his leadership team dismissed Marc after accusations of professional failures. The Fecafoot believed that the Belgian was unilaterally inciting players to defy its leadership.
When Marc Brys was appointed
Brys was hired by Cameroon’s sports ministry in April 2024. His appointment was very controversial following Etto’s attempt to reverse it.
The first reason why the Fecafoot president wasn’t about Marc’s appointment was that the decision was made by the country’s sports ministry, and not by the national football federation. This made the former Barcelona and Chelsea forward term the hiring as illegal.
The Belgian football coach position has now been taken by one of his assistants, David Pagou.
Teams Pagou has managed.
The experienced Cameroonian coach, whose appointment is believed to mirror stability and unity after a prolonged period of institutional conflict between FECAFOOT and the government, has managed several teams in the country’s elite.
David Pagou’s big test will be this month, 21 December, especially given that his 28-man squad is missing crucial and established players like goalkeeper Andre Onana, captain Vincent Aboubakar, Frank Zambo (Napoli Midfielder) and defender Michael Ngadeu.
Morocco 2025 AFCON Tournament
Pagou and his squad will travel to Morocco ahead of the big tournament, scheduled to run from 21 December to 18 January 2026.
The Cameroon national team is in Group F, which also includes Gabon, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mozambique.
