YouTube Premium is now available in Kenya, allowing users to watch content uninterrupted, without the nuisance of adverts.

With a premium plan, users can download videos to watch later when offline or on the go. It also allows for background play so you can watch while using other apps on your device or with your screen locked.

Additionally, YouTube Music is now also available in the country, where users can stream all the music they want without ads on the app.

Kenyans have welcomed this plan, though some questioned why Android users are paying in Kenya shilling, while iOS users do so in US dollars.

The launch of YouTube Premium in Kenya coincides with Safaricom launching its new home fibre package that includes voice, data, and SMS under the ‘feels good to be home campaign’ early this week.

The campaign targets to offer home connectivity solutions and add-ons like SecureNet and Family Share to give subscribers improved home experiences and grow home internet uptake in the country.

With an additional Ksh 800 on their current home fibre plan, customers get 8GB, 400 minutes, and 1,000 SMS, while an additional Ksh 1,800 gives one 17GB, 1,000 minutes, and 2,000 SMS. Moreover, an additional Ksh 2,700 gives customers 27GB, 1,500 minutes, and 3,000 SMS.
