The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced plans to strengthen its collaboration with South Africa’s Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in a move aimed at boosting the fight against corruption in the region.
Speaking at Integrity Centre in Nairobi on Thursday during a courtesy call by the SIU delegation, EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud said the meeting reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the two agencies and paved the way for an enhanced framework of cooperation.
“The fight against corruption knows no boundaries. Through strategic partnerships such as this, we strengthen our collective capacity to safeguard public resources, uphold integrity, and restore public trust,” Mohamud said.
The visiting team was led by Advocate JL Andy Mothibi, Head and Chief Executive of the SIU and Vice President of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA). Mothibi lauded the engagement as an important platform for exchanging best practices, benchmarking, and building stronger partnerships across Commonwealth Africa.
“The visit has provided an opportunity for our institutions to share experiences, strengthen operational linkages and reinforce our shared commitment to tackling corruption,” Mothibi said.
The discussions identified several strategic areas for joint action, including capacity building and joint training programmes, exchange of technical expertise, staff development opportunities, and collaborative research.
The EACC has in recent months expanded its cooperation with international partners, including the World Bank, to improve oversight on funded projects and enhance investigator skills. The SIU, on its part, is recognised for its strong mandate in civil litigation to recover state assets and prevent financial losses to the government.
Officials from both agencies expressed confidence that the enhanced partnership will improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption initiatives in the region and strengthen public trust in governance.
