The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed at Hoosingo and serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) celebrated the festive Christmas season with locals in the area through an outreach activity.

The community outreach initiative was aimed at strengthening relations between the soldiers and the local community under the leadership of Captain Edward Leperes.
The troops engaged residents in efforts to better understand their immediate needs. In a press release, the KDF disclosed that fresh water and foodstuffs were distributed to the community, providing much-needed relief for households.
“The provision of water was particularly timely, as the region continues to experience prolonged drought conditions that have strained access to basic resources, leaving many households affected by persistent water shortages,” the release read in part.
Additionally, the troops conducted an engagement session with community leaders and local authorities, fostering collaboration for the betterment of livelihoods in the area.
“Discussions focused on security, infrastructure development, and ways of improving community health. The forum provided an opportunity for open dialogue and the exchange of ideas on shared challenges and priorities,” the KDF added.
Community involvement in promoting stability
Community representatives, led by Hoosingo District Officer Noor Gure, shared their views and concerns. On his part, Gure expressed appreciation to the KDF AUSSOM troops for their support and continued goodwill towards the community.
The KDF emphasized the importance of community engagements in stabilizing communities during conflicts, conveying its commitment to supporting civilians and addressing humanitarian needs alongside security operations.
“The outreach activity also underscored the importance of cooperation between security forces and local communities in promoting stability,” the statement elaborated.
