Valentine’s Day: Naivasha residents blame high cost of living on reduced flower sales

According to the recce done in Naivasha town, men in the town have affirmed that the reduction of flower sales during this Valentine’s Day has been majorly attributed by the high cost of living.

Why there is low turnout this Valentine’s Day

Speaking to a local TV station on Wednesday, February 14, the men asserted that the current economic situation in the country has denied them a chance to experience relish and exhilaration.

The residents stated that Valentine’s Day celebrations are only for those few fortunate individuals and the wealthy class who can pounce into the day.

“According to the current dynamic of Valentine’s Day, it is majorly seen as wealthy class affairs, and considering the current price of living the President has subjected us to, we can’t afford to buy those flowers for our loved ones, ” one of the residents said.

They pointed out that they can’t partake in the celebration of Valentine’s Day, saying it would be unintelligent to use KSh 300 or KSh 400, perhaps the only cash they can afford to get in a day, and spend it all on flowers.

The men argued that their families would go to bed on empty stomachs because they didn’t have any other avenue to exploit to bring extra income.

“I can’t afford to come here to do my hustle which gives me roughly Ksh 300 or 400  and use it to buy flowers and children are deliberately waiting for me back at home to take some food for them, ” a resident commented.

They also issued a stern warning to the people who would be scaling the height of Valentine’s Day, saying they should be more than watchful about their moves throughout the day because the day is profoundly unknown to be that day where the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases is very high.

Valentine’s Day celebrations

Saint Valentine’s Day commonly known as Valentine’s Day is majorly attributed to a vast elation day and accompanied by showing unwavering love among couples, sweethearts, and generally loved ones and it is celebrated globally and annually on the 14th of February.

During this day, people who are in love disrupt their normal daily routine(s) and spend the whole day romantically by being in tranquil premises or visiting those places free from disruption to experience a moment of great enjoyment.
