Facts about Valentine’s Day: What you should know about February 14 celebrations

Saint Valentine’s Day commonly known as Valentine’s Day is majorly attributed to a vast exhilaration day accompanied by unwavering love among couples, sweethearts, and generally loved ones and it is celebrated globally and annually on the 14th of February.

On this day, people who are in love disrupt their normal daily routine(s) and spend the whole day romantically by being in tranquil premises or visiting those places free from disruption to experience relish.

As many couples normally honour their spouses or partners by buying chocolates or any other gifts associated with romance and love, organizing a late dinner and having a good time together, there is much in the backdrop of Valentine’s Day that the majority have iota understanding about as far as it’s originality is concerned.

Below are facts you should know about the day of the loved ones;

1. Box of Chocolate

Most men always buy chocolate for the ladies they tend to have deep affection for. The pioneer of this was Richard Cadbury in the 19th century, a descendant of a British chocolate manufacturing family. Richard leveraged Valentine’s Day to sell chocolates

2. Vinegar Valentine’s

Whenever Valentine’s Day is imminent, folks think of showing love, however, the day was also a special day to turn off suitors and tell the admirers to suspend their commitments.

3. Wearing Your Heart on Your Sleeve

In the middle ages, it was also reported that men during Valentine’s Day would draw the name of women whom they would get married to or romantically associated with while attending the Roman Festival honouring Juno.

4. Writing letters

Most romantic letters normally go viral on Valentine’s Day or when is about. People developed this habit following the early thousands of romantic letters addressed to “Juliet” the subject matter of the lasting romantic tragedy. The letters normally reach the city of Verona, Italy, and the powerfully composed scribe usually receives a price.

Valentine’s Day as a fertility festival

Saint Valentine’s Day was also massively popularized by the Christian Priests to relegate the pagan fertility festival that started way back in the 6th century B.C.

On the days of the festival of Lupercalia, goats, and dogs would be sacrificed by the Roman Priests, using their blood-soaked hides to slap women in the streets, as what they perceived to be fertility blessings, History.com wrote.
