TRANS NZOIA, Kenya – Outspoken Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has said that the time for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to dominate Kenya’s political scene is almost coming to an end.
ODM is a major centre-left political party in Kenya. Founded in 2005 following a constitutional referendum, it has been a central force in Kenyan politics for two decades, championing social democracy and devolution.

However, according to Amisi, a member of the ODM party, the government has unleashed enough resources for the revival of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party countrywide.
“The government is using the goodwill that the ODM party, through a broad-based arrangement, has accorded him. All this under the full glare of clueless, smiley, politically immature, excited, selfish and greedy top @TheODMparty leaders,” MP Amisi posted on his official X account.
The youthful MP serving his second term in office went on: “Verily, verily, I say unto you there will be more UDA MPs in Nyanza than ODM MPs in the upcoming general election, and the weak ODM will not have bargaining power to enter into a coalition.”
MP Amisi accused President William Ruto of ‘weakening’ the ODM party. As of late 2025, the party is in a transitional period following the death of its long-time leader, Raila Odinga, in October 2025.
“That is what he (President Ruto) did with Moi’s KANU and Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA, and penetrated the Rift Valley and Central regions with his own party. Ruto does not want a coalition that will demand a deputy president slot; he wants to destroy ODM to achieve a one-party monopoly, and he will drop and choose his deputy at will when it is politically convenient,” explained MP Amisi.
Why are die-hard ODM party members walking on a tightrope
According to the lawmaker, when all is said and done, all ODM broad-based Cabinet secretaries will either join UDA or get fired.
“Any ODM member who loves Ruto will love his UDA party, so what’s the use of the ODM party? He laughs with you while inside, he is planning revenge on you. Very difficult man to deal with and engage with,” added the MP.
MP Amisi, a close ally of the former prime minister, said he had chosen to speak his mind on social media after realising that his party had no plans of convening a National Delegates Convention (NDC).
“And because there are no signs of NDC to air this out, I chose this platform and sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused thereby. Take this not with insults but with kindness, at least for the preservation of Baba’s ideologies. I rest my case! Kenya needs a renaissance!” MP Amisi emphasised.
ODM is currently part of a “broad-based” government arrangement with President Ruto’s administration, a deal initially brokered by Raila in early 2025.
What is the current formation of the ODM party’s top leadership
Additionally, there are ongoing internal debates regarding whether to maintain this alliance with Ruto’s UDA party for the 2027 elections or to return to an independent opposition stance.
Dr. Oburu Oginga, the Senator for Siaya and brother of the late Raila, is the current ODM party leader. He is deputised by Abdulswamad Nassir (Governor of Mombasa), Simba Arati (Governor of Kisii), and Godfrey Osotsi (Senator for Vihiga).
Edwin Sifuna, the Senator for Nairobi, doubles as the party’s Secretary-General, while Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga is the party’s National Chairperson.
Despite Raila’s death in a medical facility in Southern India in October 2025, the Orange party remains a founding member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.
