Judy Wangui Mungai and Michael Githae Mathenge were on Monday arraigned at Kiambu High Court and charged with the murder of Mary Wambui. The two have been in custody for over a month.
Wangui and Mathenge were charged that on January 26 and 27 in coordination with other people not before the court at Four Ways Junction Estate along Kiambu-Naiobi road, they murdered Ms Mary Wambui.
Appearing before Judge Christine Meoli, the duo denied the charges. The prosecution led by Counselor Christine Ndombi opposed the release of the two on bond.
The court set March 18 as the next mention of the case when the pre-bail report will be availed, with the suspects remaining in custody until then.
It also set pre-trial conference of the case for July 30 and the hearing to be on October 7 and 8.
Wambui’s body was found dumped in a dam near Mugutha Estate in Juja Constituency on January 27. The autopsy report showed that the killers hit her nine times on the head before suffocating her to death.
Two weeks ago, the police released Joseph Kori Karue, Wambui’s husband, who had been in custody with Wangoi and Mathenge. Koi was released from Gigiri Police Station.
Ms Wambui was last seen alive on January 26 at Homeland Inn, where she was allegedly spotted with Judy Wangui, who is believed to be Kori’s mistress, before two men joined them and had a meal together.
