The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has strengthened its capacity to train and deploy health workers across the country following the commissioning of eight new vehicles by Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hon. Aden Duale,on Wednesday September 17.
The addition of the vehicles brings KMTC’s fleet to 158 and will enhance access to clinical placement sites, rural training facilities and community health programmes. The vehicles will also support medical camps, social outreach initiatives and environmental sustainability efforts. According to KMTC, the investment is expected to provide students with more practical exposure while boosting health service delivery, particularly in underserved areas.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, CS Duale welcomed both new and continuing students to the 2025/2026 academic year, revealing that 11,058 students have already reported out of an expected 15,000. With 91 campuses spread across 45 counties, KMTC remains the largest trainer of health professionals in Kenya. By December, the institution expects to graduate 22,000 health workers, further strengthening the national and global health workforce.
“KMTC plays an indispensable role in building the health workforce, which is the most critical pillar of the Taifa Care Model and Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” said CS Duale.
He further encouraged students to approach their training with diligence, empathy and innovation.
The CS also highlighted government efforts to create a more conducive learning environment, noting that 57 KMTC campuses have been included in the Affordable Housing Programme. The initiative will see the construction of hostels and student villages to ease accommodation challenges.
In addition, he emphasized ongoing reforms to modernise infrastructure, recruit more lecturers and equip campuses with up-to-date learning resources to meet Kenya’s evolving health needs.

KMTC continues to prioritise equitable access to health training by admitting students through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and providing financial support through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch and Board Chairman Mr. Joseah Cheruiyot joined CS Duale in commending staff, management and partners for their dedication to improving health training.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, Secretary Administration Adan Halakhe, Dr. Daniel Mwai of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, KMTC Board Directors, staff and students.
