Public Service Commission (PSC) has said that a large number of staff faked their academic credentials to fit into the job slots and even for promotion in several State Institutions.

PSC directed stern action on the employees faking academic papers, which saw some taking early retirement and the rest resigning.

Some of the government entities that topped the list with staff having fake academic papers and other professional documents included Kenya Railways(KR), Kenya Medical Training College,(KMTC) Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

“Arising from the findings of the authentication exercise, 58 officers resigned, six took early retirement, 181 were dismissed from service, 252 had ongoing disciplinary action, and one was deceased, ” PSC Chief Executive, Rotich, stated in a report to Parliament.

He continued, ‘ There was no action taken against four, and there was no information provided with regard to 242 certificates found to have been forged.”

1. Kenya Railways, let go of 55 staff with two of them had fake degree certificates.

2. Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) sacked 35 civil servants.

3. Geothermal Development Company, dismissed 15 after finding them with forged certificates.

4.  Kenya Medical Supplies Agency(Kemsa) parted ways with 16 staff members.

5. Three employees each were let go by the National Construction Authority and Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service.

Kenya Pipeline Company produced the highest number of employees ( 58)  who decided to resign following dubious certificates they held, with three fake degree and diploma holders doing the same at the Local Authorities Provident Fund.

The same script played at the National Environment Management Authority where one diploma and five KCSE certificate holders voluntarily left their job. In contrast, at Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation, one Master’s degree, one degree, two diplomas and one KCSE certificate holders also left.

Kenya Railways and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital are following closely 27 civil servants who are doubting their academic qualifications.

Nine staff members working at the Kenya Revenue Authority and the Postal Corporation respectively are currently having their jobs hanging on the fence after they were found to have fake academic papers

The Commission stated that services of personnel in any of the government institutions must be halted with immediate effect if found with forged academic documents.
