OL KALOU, Kenya – Vocal Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has once again stormed Nyandarua County, intensifying grassroots political mobilisation in Ol Kalou to campaign for Timothy Kamau Kariuki.

Kariuki, a young parliamentary aspirant, is vying for the hotly contested race under the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM) ticket ahead of the July 16, 2026, mini-polls.

“In Ol Kalou, drumming up support for Gen Z candidate Timothy Kamau Kariuki. Kenya Needs A Renaissance!” Amisi posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter) while interacting with residents of Ol Kalou.

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the youthful lawmaker announced that he had embarked on a meet-the-people tour across the constituency in support of Kariuki.

“My 4th meeting today: supporting Gen Z unapologetically. Ol Kalou ni #Wantam. Kenya needs a renaissance!” the MP allied to the Senator Edwin Sifuna-led ‘Linda Mwananchi’ political faction further said.

Before starting a meet-the-people trip around the constituency in favour of Kariuki, Amisi attended a church service at PCEA Mirangine on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

The vocal MP claimed that he was motivated by the candidate’s modest campaign strategy, especially his alleged employment of a donkey during events, which Amisi claimed was similar to his own early political experience.

“After church service, we will carry out a meet-the-people exercise within the area in support of a very young leader, Timothy Kamau Kariuki, who has decided to stop complaining and present himself for the MP position,” Amisi said.

These moves hint at Amisi’s links to the People’s Renaissance Movement, which had been earlier linked to the ‘Linda Mwananchi’ faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), only for the movement to deny any association with the newly formed party.

Timothy Kamau Kariuki stages a triumphant entry

On May 25, 2026, Ol Kalou town was filled with excitement as Kamau made a dramatic entrance to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices, riding a donkey to submit his nomination certificate for the parliamentary by-election.

At 26 years old, Kamau is a Gen Z candidate representing the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRP/PM Party), and his unconventional arrival immediately drew attention from locals and the media.

The donkey ride was supported by a jubilant crowd of his followers who celebrated the moment with chants, songs, and shouts of encouragement.

Shouts were made high as the donkey trotted steadily through the streets, turning the submission of nomination papers into a lively public spectacle.

Inside the hotly contested Ol Kalou mini poll

The IEBC had set May 25, 2026, as the official day for candidates to present their nomination papers, and Kamau’s arrival stood out among the hopefuls.

His choice of transport symbolised humility and a connection to ordinary citizens, contrasting with the polished convoys often associated with established politicians.

Ol kalau ni #Wantam

We must stand with our youths who have stood strong in protests .

Genz can not just be items to call on the streets and when it comes to supporting them on ballot we go to the old.

Kamau is one of several candidates contesting the Ol Kalou seat, which became vacant following the death of MP David Njuguna Kiaraho in March 2026.

Other notable contenders include Sammy Kamau Ngotho, nominated by the Democracy for the Citizens (DCP), and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga.
