KAJIADO, Kenya – Vocal Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has petitioned the state to immediately release all protesters and activists arrested during the Thursday, June 25, 2026, peaceful demonstration.
On Thursday, June 25, 2026, peaceful nationwide memorial demonstrations were held across Kenya to mark the second anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z-led anti-Finance Bill protests.

Organisers, including youth activists, civil rights groups, and affected families, framed the processions as peaceful acts of remembrance.
Their main objectives were to honour over 60 citizens killed in the 2024 unrest, place symbolic flowers, and demand government accountability and justice for victims of police violence.
However, speaking at the Isinya Police Station in Kajiado County, MP Amisi strongly defended Bob Njagi, a prominent Kenyan political activist, human rights defender, and the coordinator of the Free Kenya Movement, following his arrest in Kitengela.
How Bob Njagi was arrested
According to the legislator who visited the activist at the police station, Njagi was not among those arrested during the demonstrations.
“We are here to see our comrade Bob Njagi, who was arrested while taking a cup of tea in Kitengela for reasons that we do not know. He was not told what he had done. He was not participating in the demonstrations under any circumstances. He was just arrested while he was going about his business in Kitengela. So we were worried as Gen Zs, and we have been asking, ‘Where is our comrade?'” said Amisi.
The youthful lawmaker moved to attest to and confirm with the Kenyan youth that he had seen Njagi, stating that he was alive and kicking.
“We also want to thank God for preserving his life. We have seen him, we have talked and encouraged him. We were telling the young people that let us meet in court on Thursday in Kitengela, Kajiado Court, Court No. 2, to go and escort our comrade,” added Amisi.
MP Caleb Amisi’s message to the judiciary
The MP elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket further pleaded with the judiciary to do justice and allow Njagi to come back home.
“They have charged him with treason, which is a serious crime in this country. You cannot pick somebody taking tea and place treason charges on him. The legal parameters of treason are quite high. So, you cannot just pick up a Kenyan and put up treason charges on them,” lamented Amisi.
In his own words, he went on:
“So, we want to ask the judges and all the judicial officers who will be overseeing this particular case to see to it that this is our comrade who has been fighting for something good for this country and have mercy on him. Release him so he can return to his family. His children are crying; they do not know where their father is. He is not a thief. He has not killed anybody. He has not stolen anybody’s property. They have always seen their father as a good father.”
Davis Lichuma’s whereabouts remain unknown
MP Amisi insisted that on that fateful day, Njagi was not on the streets.
“He was just going about his business, and he cannot be a candidate for treason charges. We also want to ask Kenyans to stay strong because the struggle and clamour for change are still on,” stated the MP.
At the same time, MP Amisi called for the immediate release of We are also demanding the release of Davis Lichuma, another prominent Kenyan human rights activist who went missing following his arrest by state authorities.
Lichuma was picked up by state authorities during the peaceful demonstrations on Thursday, June 25, 2026, outside Parliament buildings in Nairobi, and he has not been presented in court or found in any police station.
“This is the reason why we are going to every police station in the country looking for one Davis Lichuma,” added MP Amisi.
Dozens of activists and protesters arrested during recent anti-government demonstrations and anniversary marches in Kenya have been released. While hundreds faced arraignment, several missing activists endured abduction and alleged torture before being found dumped alongside roads.
