President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto on Saturday hosted the 97th Kenya Music Festival State Concert at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County.
The annual event, which highlights the best of Kenya’s musical and artistic talent, brought together thousands of performers in music, dance, drama, and elocution. This year’s edition attracted close to 150,000 participants, with a strong showing from female learners.
Following the State Concert, the Head of State and the First Lady are scheduled to travel to Kampala, Uganda, for the East Africa Music, Dance and Drama Festival. They will be accompanied by winners from the Kenya Drama and Theatre Festival. The regional showcase will run from August 17 to 25.

Education speaking at the winners’ gala held at Meru School on Friday, raised concerns over the glaring gender imbalance at the festival.
“We must make concerted effort to help the boy child participate at the festival after we had over 95,000 female against 45,000 male participants recorded this year,” he said during the winners’ Gala at Meru School on Friday.
The Kenya Music Festival continues to serve as a platform for nurturing and celebrating local talent while preparing learners for regional and international stages.
