The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially opened applications for 24,000 teacher internship positions in Junior Secondary Schools across the country.

The move is part of TSC’s efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) while also filling critical staffing gaps in the education sector.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the commission said that qualified and interested candidates can apply for the internships via its official online platforms; www.tsc.go.ke under the Careers section or directly at teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.

The portal will remain open from August 26 to September 9, 2025, midnight.

The internships, offered under the Teacher Internship Programme, will run for one year and aim to provide fresh educators with hands-on classroom experience, mentorship and professional growth.

Successful interns will be deployed to Junior Schools within the sub-counties where they are interviewed or to other schools within the county where vacancies exist.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens.
  • Hold at least a Diploma in Education.
  • Have a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE, with at least C+ in two teaching subjects.
  • Be registered teachers with the TSC.

While the internship is not a salaried position, TSC confirmed that interns will receive a stipend of Sh20,000 per month, subject to statutory deductions.

In addition to the internship programme, TSC has advertised five job vacancies and re-advertised internship opportunities in ICT for a period of 12 months. The positions target professionals with diverse skills to support the commission’s expanding mandate.

Applicants are advised to check the detailed advertisement on the TSC website for requirements, job descriptions and county-specific allocations.

TSC moreover, emphasised that it is an equal opportunity employer and encouraged Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to apply.

The commission also warned applicants against falling victim to fraudsters, urging them to report any suspicious activity to the nearest TSC office or its headquarters.

Recruitment will thus follow the 2025/2026 Guidelines for Recruitment of Teacher Interns, which are also available on the commission’s website.
