The fight against corruption in the country has, in recent years, taken different approaches dealing with the perpetrators.

With the recent move coming from the injection of new currency notes to the economy by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), many fraud and corrupt fellows will have to face tough economic times in exchanging the Sh 1000 note before October 1.

And now comes the move by National Assembly minority leader John Mbadi to bar public officers from misusing public funds or fraudulently acquire wealth from the public.

In a letter to the speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, the Suba South MP wants Section 30 of the Public Officer Ethics Act be amended to compel the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission publicize the wealth declaration of a public officer.

The MP also seek to amend Section 13 of the Public Officer Ethics Act to compel public officers to file a return with the anti-corruption body within 14 days stating the source of the contribution money, after participating in a fund raiser.

This according to Mbadi, will help tame corruption among public officers, which has been a loop hole for many government projects.

DP Dr. William Ruto give out cash in a past event

“I want public officers to live within their means. If your contribution to fundraisings is always in millions and it doesn’t resonate with your salary, then you must tell EACC where the money has come from,” said Mbadi.

If amended, Mbadi’s law will see accountability and integrity realized among public officers in the country.

“For purposes of accountability and integrity of a public officer, the public must be given reasons why they cannot access the wealth information of any public officer,” reads part of the amendments.

The MP also wants public officers to be answerable to both EACC and the Public Service Commission when declaring their wealth. This will be achievable through the amendments of section 26 of the Public Officer Ethics Act.

“The move for officers to declare their wealth to two commissions will enable both EACC and Public Service Commission to monitor the growth of their wealth in relation to their income,” he added.

This comes a midst controversies rocking deputy president Dr.William Ruto’s contribution moves to churches across the country.

The opposition has been a key critique to Ruto, questioning where the DP gets the money he donates to Churches every Sunday of the month.

Willim Rutos quest to head the country come 2022 is facing numerous obstacles revolving around the fight against corruption.
